About the Event
Just sit back and relax as Laura O. Foster presents us with an exploration of Portland. In her five walking books, readers take long walks through urban neighborhoods: meandering through streetcar districts, leafy residential streets and parks, up and down stairways, beyond dead-ends, along river beaches, atop volcanic peaks and anywhere else a curious person would delight in discovering.
Laura crafts routes designed to take urban walkers to places others often miss. Her walks weave geology, architecture, history, ethnobotany and horticulture into rich stories about our beautiful Northwest places.
Of course, every walk passes through a local commercial district where coffee, beer, books, and other joys of urban exploring will be found. She designs her routes so that each one makes for a small urban holiday, good for locals and visitors, too, who want to get beyond the tourist highlights of one of the nation’s most walkable cities.
Ready, set, walk!
After her presentation, Laura will answer your questions and her books will be available for purchase. She has generously offered to donate a percentage of each sale to the Friends.
