National Library Week April 10-16, 2011

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

This year the emphasis is on libraries as places for new beginnings. Whether you are getting your first library card, learning new computer skills or planning a trip, the library is the place where your story begins. Whether it is by discovering the pleasures of reading, by learning how to use new technologies to find a job or by opening a book to explore distant lands, library patrons are continually creating new stories for themselves.

While it is important to recognize the value of our libraries and how they enrich our lives, a week seems hardly adequate – maybe a month or a decade would be more appropriate!

Visit your library, learn something you didn’t know before, start a new chapter in your own story. Be a Friend!
