FOL Board Member, Ali Harvey
Helping us put our best foot forward
At the 2010 Annual Meeting, I was approached by a dark-haired young woman who introduced herself as Ali Harvey and told me that she had recently moved to Portland from Walla Walla, WA, where she had been active with the local Friends of the Library. She knew about computers and marketing and wondered if she could help us.
Ali has both the energy and the skill set we needed because the Board was embarking on an ambitious project – the re-branding of the FOL. Within weeks, Ali was a member of both the Website and the Marketing & Membership Committees. She’s brought a youthful perspective, computer savvy and experience working in small businesses.
Active Volunteer
Ali found that volunteering on both FOL committees is not only personally fulfilling, but valuable in terms of her work as Marketing Director for her family’s winery, Dumas Station. Most interesting for Ali has been writing and helping design a new Friends of the Library brochure with Board Member and fellow marketing expert Sheila Babbie. Ali was instrumental in finding Zoe Mendell of ZoePDX.com, an artist who is not only terrific, but generously donated her time and talent.
Lover of Libraries
Ali became a lover of libraries after she graduated from college and began to move about the world for work. Libraries, she quickly discovered, are much more than books and can provide an entry point into a community.
While living in Melbourne, Australia, Ali discovered the city’s unique music scene using CDs from her local library. In Walla Walla she taught computer classes in the library. She has often used libraries to enrich her life (audiobooks for long commutes, bestsellers for fun), and as excellent references for her business needs.
Generously Dontated Wine
I hope you saw Ali at this year’s Annual Meeting pouring Dumas Station’s wine, donated by the awarding-winning estate winery. We want to congratulate Ali on her recent election to the FOL Board! If you would like to join Ali and our other awesome volunteers, there are many opportunities available. Contact Sara at 503-224-9176.
