Sale at Cherry Park Market in Troutdale

For our tenth spring sale in East County we chose a site with a library as a welcoming neighbor. The Troutdale Library staff had a fun event scheduled for the day of the sale — Dia de los Ninos y Dia de los Libros — and our volunteers enjoyed some of their leftover refreshments.

On Saturday we hosted 292 people during the members-only period (selling many new memberships at our new fee of $10 for individuals and $15 for families). Over 1000 people that day enjoyed perusing the donated books, sheet music, maps, brochures, DVDs and various other media items.

Our intrepid volunteers were ready to help give directions, keep the materials organized, count books and process sales. We grossed $20,190 that day! Sunday, our half-price day, brought 730 book-browsers and some repeat customers. By three o’clock, when the Friends of the Sandy Library arrived to collect items to be donated for their sale, we had another $6,498 in revenue.

Thanks Donors

Many thanks to our donors who helped meet the refueling needs of our volunteers: Albertsons, Bi-Mart, Fred Meyer, Safeway, and Walmart. Thanks as well to Jazzy Bagels, Koldkist, and Starbucks for providing all-day sustenance via bagels, water and coffee.

The sale had an impact on Cherry Park Market’s long-term occupants: Dollar Store saw an increase in business, as did Safeway, Starbucks and the Troutdale Library. Troutdale Administrator Bryan Fearn was especially pleased by the attention to the newest addition to the MCL system and made several trips over to the sale. We’d like to go back next spring!
