Thank you for your interest in volunteering! For over 50 years, volunteers have been the heart and soul of our organization. On a monthly basis, volunteers generously donate approximately 600 hours of support to Friends of the Library. Each volunteer makes a measurable impact in the funds that Friends raises for the Library's life-enriching programs and services.

Rose City Reads - Bookstore and Sort Room
Help us staff our used bookstore! Looking for assistance with customer service, sorting/shelving, online, events and marketing. Prior experience working with books or in retail is very helpful. Ability to lift boxes of books a huge plus! Must be 18 years of age or older. Most volunteer opportunities require a weekly commitment for a minimum six-month period.
Shifts: Tuesday - Saturday 11:00-2:00 & 2:00-5:00. We’re particularly looking for assistance with shelving and online shipping on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Friends Library Store
Help us staff the Friends Library Store at Central Library. Looking for assistance with customer service, stocking books/merchandise and marketing. Retail or customer service experience preferred but not required. Must be 18 years of age or older. Most volunteer opportunities require a weekly commitment for a minimum six-month period.
Shifts: Friday-Saturday Noon - 2:30 & 2:30-5:00.
Location: Central Library, 801 SW 10th Ave., Portland
Board Member Applications Due 4/19/25 - Apply Now
Friends of the Library Board members serve 3 year terms and provide oversight, governance, advocacy support and financial management to the organization. Board members are required to have a current membership and attend quarterly Board meetings and activities as scheduled. Members are expected to commit time to FOL events and to serve on one or more committees i.e., Leadership, Finance, Nominations, and/or Community Outreach.
