Want to Donate Materials to the Friends?

The Friends of the Library raises money through the sale of used books. 

You may donate materials in good condition. If you wouldn’t give it to a friend, don’t give it to the Friends of the Library!  You may bring up to one bag/box of materials per day to any Multnomah County Library location during open hours.  

You may also bring one bag/box per day to our new bookstore, Rose City Reads, 221 NE 122nd Ave. Suite A, during open hours, 11-5pm, Tues-Sat.

We accept:

  • Popular Fiction 2014 or newer

  • Paper and Hardback classics (nominated or award-winning authors, any year)

  • Science-Fiction and Graphic Novels and Comics

  • Paper and Hardback nonfiction 

  • Vintage and Rare books 

  • Travel guides 2022 or newer

  • Audiobooks on CD

  • DVDs, LPs, sheet music, pamphlets, maps, and ephemera

We do not accept:

  • Ex-library books 

  • Torn, dirty, moldy, water-damaged or smelly books. 

  • Books with excessive writing, highlighting, or underlining

  • Magazines or Reader's Digest condensed books

  • Harlequin or Love Inspired mass markets

  • Computer books older than 2020

  • Encyclopedias or Time Life sets

  • Textbooks and dictionaries older than 2014

  • VHS tapes 

  • Audio tape cassettes

  • CDs
