How Book Donations Powered Our Book Fair
For many years, the Friends of the Multnomah County Library hosted two annual used book sales, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. These events became a cherished tradition for Portland book lovers, offering thousands of donated books, all in support of our public library system.
While we no longer hold these large-scale sales, book donations still play a vital role in supporting the library. Today, donated books are sold through our two physical bookstores and online shop, with all proceeds benefiting Multnomah County Library programs and services.
Here is the journey of a donated book, which gets sorted by volunteers before arriving at the book sale.
Your gently used books continue to make a difference. Even though our seasonal book sales are no longer taking place, donations are still vital to our mission, and there are still plenty of ways to support.
Find your next favorite read while supporting the library! Our two physical bookstores and online shop are filled with affordable, gently used books. Every purchase helps fund library programs, events, and services throughout Multnomah County.
Have books to donate? We gratefully accept gently used items year-round. Check our donation guidelines to see what we’re able to accept and how to drop them off at one of our locations.
